Charlotte Verity studied at the Slade School of Fine Art under William Coldstream. Following time in Italy on a Boise Scholarship she settled in London. Her painting of this period was mainly still life, occasionally large, and characterised by deep space, a sensitivity to colour and natural light. These were shown at the Anne Berthoud Gallery in solo shows in 1984 and 1988. In 1990 the exhibition catalogue included an essay by Anna Moszynska.
Subsequent solo shows of 1998 and 2002, for which Polly Devlin wrote an introduction, and 2007 were at the Browse and Darby gallery. From 2003 much of her work was painted outside in her London garden. These paintings were exhibited in a beautiful C18th house in Stepney, London, in 2004. The subjects, whether trees, familiar flowers or hanging fruit, depend on close observation. They reflect the seasons and the mutability of our surroundings.
2010 was spent as the artist in residence at the Garden Museum next door to Lambeth Palace London, where her work was based on its historically significant garden.
Although better known for her still lifes, she is also a portrait painter. Click here or the link to portraits to see.
Her work is in many private and public collections including Deutsche Bank, Tate Education, University College London and The Arts Council of England.
